From the EDITOR..

Happy New Year! The start of a great year for flight simulation… we hope! Computer Pilot is beginning the year with a small but significant change to our magazine. You may have noticed our December Issue was labeled as Volume 6 Issue 9 and this current issue is Volume 7 Issue 1. Since we are now in the first month of the new year and now also a monthly publication, we decided to reset the bean counter for this issue so each issue number aligns itself with the months of the year. For example, Volume 7 Issue 1 for January, Issue 2 for February and so on. Issue 6 will be the June issue and Issue 12 will be, you guessed it, the December 2003 issue. This should make it easier for you to track down past issues that may be mentioned in future articles in the magazine or to help you organize your collection a little better. It is only a subtle change, however, it is one that should benefit us all!

We have quite a number of interesting articles to present to you this issue. Obviously, you would have probably noticed by now that this very issue contains the massive 12-page CFS3 review written by resident combat sims expert, Derek Davis. Derek has spent the last 6 weeks putting this product through its paces to uncover the strengths and weaknesses of the simulation experience it offers. We also take a look at some of the best software and hardware products to emerge in 2002 and give you a great insight and offer tips to get you started in AI traffic and scenery creation! Our Instrument Flying lesson this time around is a little unique. Instructor, Brent McColl jumps aboard a SAAB340 to follow the ‘real-world’ flight that corresponds to our last 3 lessons in this series. A very interesting read for those that have been following along with these lessons.
