From the EDITOR..

The wait continues for FS2004. According to Microsoft’s initial press release, the title should be available next month. Let’s hope this is the case, however, I suspect it may be delayed a little longer. Despite this, there continues to be a solid flow of add-ons for FS2002 being released, many of which are of the highest quality. Speaking of quality, X-Plane version 7 is now in beta testing and you may well have the final version 7 release in your hands right now. This sim continues to grow in support and realism. Many shunned it in the past for its lack of visual eye-candy, however, the sim continues to improve and continues to be updated at regular intervals and is certainly becoming a serious contender to Microsoft’s reign at the top of the general/commercial aviation sim market. It’s well worth a look.

We have had many readers email us asking about publishing more in-depth tutorials on designing panels, gauges, adventures and other add-on type files for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Rest assured, these are coming and we are basically holding off until the release of FS2004 to publish these guides to ensure the information provided is current and relevant to the latest versions of the sim. We have already published guides on downloading and adding aircraft and scenery to FS2002 as well as a complete aircraft painting tutorial for FS2002 aircraft. Check the back issues if you missed these.

You can also expect a few more changes to the magazine over the coming issues. In our quest to keep things fresh and dynamic, we will be modifying some of our regular features, changing layout styles and improving the general content of the magazine. You will notice our IL2 Forgotten Battles review features a ‘second opinion’ column. This feature allows two individual writers to give you their opinion on a particular title to provide greater depth and scope and this is something you will now find in reviews of major title releases.

As always, if you have any comments, suggestions or questions about Computer Pilot, please feel free to contact us. It is your magazine!
