The Art of Instrument Flying |
In the flight sim world we strive very hard to mimic the actions of real pilots by flying into, and out of real airports using real weather, live ATC controllers and sometimes even real time schedules, but sometimes it just isn’t the same for various reasons. We show you How IFR approaches are really done. |

Crosscheck – Artificial Intelligence |
No, it’s not machines taking over the world in a rebuild of a Matrix-type story, or is it? Andrew Jones explores the world of ‘A.I.’ in this first Crosscheck article. A series that looks well beyond the face of flight simulation software.

Rush to Mt. Rushmore |
Flight simulation is just that… a simulation of real-world flight, so when Doug Horton told us he was flying to Mt. Rushmore and beyond for real, we thought we would tag along and recreate the flight in our sims for an experience from both sides of the fence.

From the EDITOR..
It’s that time again folks… Yes that one time of the year (or every two years) that many flight simmers around the globe go Microsoft crazy over the release of the latest version of their popular Flight Simulator line. If you are lucky enough, and assuming the Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight release schedule has indeed remained on schedule, some of you may already be flying the new software. We are very busy here compiling the full review of the simulator which will appear in our October issue. I know this sounds like a few months away at this stage, but unfortunately, print media needs that extra time to go through the process and we wanted to make sure our review was based on a final store copy of the product, and not the later beta, or earlier ‘release to manufacturer’ copies. Rest assured, however, we promise you quite an expansive review of the product and many follow up articles you have all been waiting for, including design tutorials, tips and tricks and system performance tweaking to name just a few. We will also do our best to compile a list of older add-ons that are compatible with the newest version as soon as possible, however, we must wait on developers and publishers to see if patches are forthcoming (or even needed) for FS2004.
On another note, we have recently upgraded our Reader Forums online to a better and more functional script. The new forums are a great way to meet other flight sim fans and to pose questions, and receive answers on anything related to flight simulation. You can access the new forums from our website link or direct at http://www.computerpilotforums.com/forums/
Plus, we have been investigating the possibility of offering Computer Pilot Binders for sale with our magazine. These binders will help keep your collection of magazines ordered, in top condition and harder to misplace - we certainly need some here in the Computer Pilot offices that’s for sure! We will keep you updated on the progress.
I do hope you enjoy the August issue. Another great round of varied content including a very interesting Round Robin adventure in the Azores that is very much worth flying yourself.
