VOLUME 8 - ISSUE 12

Pacific Fighters Mega Review
World War II… Pacific Theater… A group of Japanese Zero’s dive from the clouds to attack a US Navy aircraft carrier. You need to scramble your aircraft to intercept before your ship becomes a permanent memorial 2,000 feet under the waves! Derek Davis has been battling from both sides in UbiSoft’s latest combat simulator. Check out his full review this issue.

AVSIM 2004 Conference Report
Continuing our effort to bring you reports from the best flight simulation expos from around the world, Doug Horton delivers his report on the AVSIM 2004 Conference held in Denver, USA.

Learning from Accidents
1974… A Boeing 727 crashes into Mt. Weather, VA prompting a change in approach clearance procedures. Find out how simulators were used to recreate the accident and effect procedural changes as Jonathan Stern present another edition of “Learning from Accidents”.

X-Plane Aerobatics
Chuck Bodeen has been turning himself green in the X-Plane skies exploring the simulation of aerobatics in Austin Meyer’s flight sim creation.

Medivac – A Day with the Life Flight Rescue Team
Some people have all the luck! Roving reporter, Arturo Weiss, found himself in New Zealand recently spending a day with the Westpac Life Flight Rescue Service flying helicopters and fixed wing medivacs! Read about their entire operation this month.

Hardware Corner
More great new hardware products feature in Rod White’s bi-monthly hardware column. This issue we take a look at bare bones systems, motherboards and mouse pads!

Round Robin Adventures - JetStar
We are flying for Australia’s Jetstar Airline. Jetstar is a new “no frills” airline. They operate a fleet of Airbus A320 and some Boeing 717’s. All of the airports in this route are served by Jetstar. It would be very unlikely that they would touch on all 4 of these in a single cycle but “hey! This is Flight Sim” and we can do anything!

The Smithsonian Institute
A trip to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C, USA will reveal a lot about aviation and its history. Edward Kelly has been there many times and gives you an insight into what you might find, plus a little look at aviation history in the process.

From the EDITOR..

Issue 12 means that December has rolled around once more. Another twelve issues down for the year, and another dozen to come next year in a brand new volume, our ninth since inception. This month’s issue sees our full review of UbiSoft’s Pacific Fighters combat simulator brought to light, but no doubt you had already guessed that from the cover image, and perhaps even from the pullout poster this month which has a combat theme.

It’s not all combat related of course, we have a ton of GA and commercial simming articles waiting for your perusal. Ben Ippolito delivers the first lesson in a series we know many of you have been requesting for a long time. This month you will get an insight into the basics of using and programming the Flight Management Computer found in many heavy jet aircraft. The series will continue in subsequent issues with a more advanced look at the technology, so stick around.

We also have reviews of two top selling products this month in FS Global 2005 and CH Products’ new USB Throttle Quadrant. Additionally, we take a look at a real world medivac operation, learn more from aviation accidents and go ‘blue side down’ with Chuck Bodeen in X-Plane!

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our dedicated readers and subscribers for your support again throughout 2004 and wish you all a happy holiday season. See you next year… same magazine, same name… Computer Pilot – the world’s only professional-quality, monthly magazine dedicated to you, the flight simulation enthusiast.
