From the EDITOR..

It is encouraging to hear positive feedback from many readers about the recently started series of home flight deck building articles we are including in the magazine.

There is another installment in this month’s issue. Building your own flight deck in the basement, study, garage or shed is a very rewarding experience, and while it does have its pitfalls and moments of frustration, it sure beats sitting in front of a normal keyboard and monitor in an uncomfortable position trying to take on the world’s most challenging approaches, or dogfights. I’d encourage anyone with the space to do so to give it a try. If nothing else, you will learn plenty about computers, technology or just cutting plywood in the process. If you need a little inspiration, check out the Project 727 article this issue. Who wouldn’t want one of those parked in your backyard?

The issue also sees the last part of our three-part series on using the Flight Management Computer on Boeing aircraft. We will be running a series on the Airbus systems later this year. We hope you have enjoyed that series and trust that it has helped you better understand the features and function of the system.

Be sure not to flick to page 60 before you look at the aircraft silhouettes on page 26 in our Aircraft ID Challenge and try to identify them. Once you have your list of guesses, jump over to page 60 for the answers and to score yourself. How did you go?

There is plenty more interesting articles, reviews, and lessons this issue and more to come throughout 2005.
