FLIGHT LESSONS
Ground School: The Propeller
There are certain parts of an aircraft we take for granted… until they fail or cause us problems! The propeller is one of them. Learning all you can about this component will make you a far better and safer pilot. We explore the theory of the propeller this issue.
Training for an Instrument Rating Part II
In this issue, we’ll cover the FS2004 instrument lesson on VOR approaches and the solo flight practice of a VOR approach. Doug will also relate some of his experiences in learning two significant instrument rating requirements that are not covered in the FS2004 instrument lessons.

Free Flying in Israel
Fresh from the hop about the Hawaiian islands, Dr David heads to Israel to take you on another VFR flying adventure. The Flight simming hobby in Israel is surprisingly well maintained by a group of keen virtual pilots. We think you will love the ride this month!

High Flight
Andrew Jones explores the world above the cloud tops as he looks at the considerations of undertaking high altitude flight using a variety of aircraft and how the pilot can get into trouble, even if still below the maximum service ceiling of their aircraft.

Who’s In Control? Delivery
This is the first in a series of articles on the art of air traffic control (ATC). It is intended as a primer for the aspiring controller but it is also useful for the online pilot to provide an insight into what the controller is doing and how the controller perceives the online world.

D.I.Y. Panel Building Part III
Peter Stark provides more tutorial tips on building your own simulator software panels.

International FS Convention 2005 Report
Francois Dumas reports on this year’s annual International Flight Sim Convention in Blackpool, UK. The show was ultimately a success, but was not without its fair share of drama!

The Ups and Downs of BoB II
Derek Davis presents a tutorial on managing the Battle of Britain II package aircraft, focusing on correct takeoff and landing technique in a variety of aircraft.

Hardware Corner
This time around we take a look at an innovative cordless desktop system, some of the latest technology in graphics cards featuring water cooling and a funky keyboard that not only looks good, but works well too!

Round Robin Adventures
We are flying for Fedex on the Boeing 727-200 on a round robin trip that will takes us to several locations in Canada. This flight is also a “true” Fedex route!

From the EDITOR..

Firstly this month, let me extend my congratulations to Computer Pilot reader/subscriber Glen Oberg, who was the winning entrant in the “I read your column Editor” experiment I proposed several issues ago. A 12 month, 12 issue extension to Glen’s subscription was awarded this month. Thanks goes out to all readers who emailed in, the response was very good and proved that a large number of readers do actually read every word of every issue front to back! Many useful comments were also added, and these have been taken under consideration to help shape future issues.

This issue we showcase some great VFR flying in perhaps the most unlikeliest of places… Israel! There exists a very vibrant community of Flight Simmers in this country and they have created some excellent add-on scenery for their local area. David Wilson-Okamura takes you free flying in Israel this month.

The return of the Freeware Frenzy column has kept smiles on many reader’s faces of late, and it is once again becoming a very popular column. Larry Coleman has been scouring the web searching for quality free packages to add to your favorite simulator. Be sure to check out what’s on the menu this month in our latest Freeware Frenzy edition.

Peter Stark wraps up his tutorial on DIY Panel Building this month. I am expecting to see lots of new panels showing up in online file libraries from all our readers in coming months! Doug Hortons next article on gaining your own virtual instrument rating, along with Al’s Round Robin adventure should provide plenty of hands-on flying this issue as well.

So what are you waiting for? Read on for more great articles, lessons, reviews and tutorials from the world of simulated aviation, brought to you by the team at Computer Pilot Magazine, the resource that provides you with the most flight sim coverage you can find anywhere in print form!
